Ride a steam train in Bogota

In Bogota it is possible to use a tourist train to go to the salt cathedral. The train ride only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The company Turistren was founded in 1992. They have been able to get 9 steam locomotives through the National Railways of Colombia when they stopped. These were in bad condition. At present there are 4 of these reinstated. Also 24 carriages have been refurbished. Usually the train consist of a steam locomotive with 14 wagons. Good for a small 560 seats per ride. Also, since 2007 there is also a diesel train in the timetable. It can carry 160 people. There is the onboard musicians who make papayera music. There is also a restaurant car where it is possible to buy some drinks and snacks.

On Sunday there will always ride a steam train. On Saturdays and public holidays may also be the diesel train.

Cost

The cost for a return ticket is 35.000 pesos per adult, children pay 21.000 pesos and 60 + pay 28.000 pesos. If you wish to visit the salt cathedral of Zipaquira or Nemocon's mines you can even buy an extra package that has transportation and entrance from the station Cajicá included.
