Tolu

Tolu is a small town on the coast of Colombia. It has about 51,000 inhabitants. This live off tourism and fishing. Tolu is the place where many Colombians come themselves to go on holiday. Tolu has no great beaches, but small narrow beaches. What many do is they go the day to Coveñas for the beach and for evening and night life to come back to tolu. There are many bars and nightclubs of the city.
The temperature throughout the year on average between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.

History

The city was founded by Alonso de Heredia, the brother of Pedro de Heredia, founder of Cartagena de Indias. The population consists mostly of African descent. The place became a tourist destination for nearby cities. The influence of the inhabitants of the Colombian department of Antioquia is clearly marked on the architecture and commerce of the population. During the paramilitary violence in the area 90 years later, the city suffered a lot. By reducing of the tourists the number of jobs reduced and resulting increase in poverty in the region.
